Conklin Park Campground
Plumas Nat'l
Forest - Beckwourth Ranger District
Conklin Park
is located in the middle of nowhere. It's
approximately 20 miles north of Beckwourth off Forest
Road 70 (Beckwourth-Genesee Road). FR 70 is paved
(a few small dirt stretches) and is passable to most
passenger cars. The access road from FR 70
(approx. 1/4 mile) can be a little rough. A little
extra care needs to be taken with cars.
The
Conklin Park campground nearly burned down in 1994. You
can see in the campsite map below the scar of the burn where
the trees are missing. The terrain is showing signs of
healing. Little sapling pines are growing through the
rocks as well as lots of shrubs and flowers. Contrary to
what you may think, the burn area kind of makes the area more
appealing looking. Willow Creek is on the west side of
the camp, but is popular with cattle.
Campsites
are fairly well spaced, and the forest cover is moderately
dense. There are quite a few visitors here given it's
remote location, but the camp should only fill on
holidays. Reviewed 06/01.
