Agnew Meadows Campground
Inyo National Forest - Mammoth Ranger District

Click to Locate Agnew Meadows on an Area MapAgnew Meadows camp is the first campground located beyond Minaret Pass where the steep descent ends and the road goes from one-lane to two-lane.  Agnew Meadows is located down a 1/2 mile dirt road from Minaret Road.  The shuttle stop is at Minaret Road.

The camp is laid out in a moderately dense forest abutting Agnew Meadows.  There is a small stream that runs along the east side of the campground with a half dozens sites on it.  However it is densely thicketed with willows and other water loving plants.

Being next to a verdant meadow, Agnew Meadows has it's share of mosquitoes and flies.  It is advisable to bring along a good bug repellent with you.

Agnew Meadows is a great location for hikers.  It is near the trailhead for the Pacific Crest Trail and John Muir Trails.  You can connect from here to thousands of miles of hiking trails.  A backpackers dream.  There is a good day hike to Shadow and Ediza Lakes (see topo maps).  Agnew Meadows Pack Station is along the entrance road on the way in.  There you can arrange horseback tours of the surrounding Ansel Adams Wilderness.  Additionally you can hike to camps/attraction downstream.

Showers are available at the Red's Meadow Camp (approx. 4 miles south on Minaret Road).  You can take the shuttle there.  Showers are free (donations encouraged).  Facilities are rustic, but the water is heated by natural hot springs.  Located just south of Red's Meadow is Red's Meadow Resort featuring a Store, Diner, Cabins and Horseback Riding.  Reviewed JUL03.

NOTE:  Red's Meadow/Devil's Postpile Mandatory Shuttle.  Visitors who are not camping are required to take the Shuttle Bus from Mammoth Mountain Ski Area.  Visitors that are camping in the Agnew Meadows camp can proceed over Minaret Summit without taking the shuttle, but are required to pay a $7/person access fee, maximum $20 per car.  After paying this fee, you are free to use the shuttles within the Red's Meadow/Devil's Postpile Area.  Shuttles run from 7AM - 7:30 PM.  You can avoid the Mandatory Shuttle by crossing over Minaret Summit before 7AM or after 7:30 PM.  However, you will have to pay your fee on the way out (should you leave between 7AM - 7:30 PM).  Day Visitors, Hikers and Backpackers are required to take the shuttle.  If you do not secure a camp site, you may be fined.
