Bootleg is located in the Walker River Canyon between the communities of Walker and Bridgeport off US Highway 395.

Bootleg is a large camp built on a rolling hill inside the Walker River canyon.  The campground is fully paved making car camping a very easy endeavor.  For most, Bootleg is used as an overflow campground to the other camps in Walker Canyon, but in many ways it's better.  It's farther off the highway, so there is little no road noise, and it's pretty densely forested giving a lot of shade.

But plain and simple, most people come here to fish.  The camp is laid out on a drive and two loops.  Sites are well shaded, but some sites lack privacy from others.

Bathroom facilities throughout Bootleg have flush-style toilets.  This place can get busy...very busy.  Choice spots go quickly.  So you will need to come early on most weekends to be able to take a pick.  Visited 08/98, 10/06.
